An Orphan’s Heart

Feb 23, 2019

Almost thirty years of civil war in Mozambique left 2.1 million orphans in extreme poverty at a time where government aid and medical care was scarce if even present at all.   Heidi and Rolland Baker, called to the homeless and unreached, moved to Mozambique and started pouring their love out to these children and preaching the good news.  Children that were once in street gangs, physically and sexually abused with no family and very alone now had a promise of love and the assurance of a home with Bakers.  Since their beginnings, Heidi Baker, CEO of  Iris Global,  together with her husband have loved and cared for thousands, their ministries tens of thousands and they have since planted over 2000 churches amidst what was previously an unreached people group.

Today there is one message Heidi preaches that strikes a place in the heart in all of us-that is,  if we let it…A message asking every christian around the globe,  not to live with a Christian Orphan Heart  but with a heart that knows the Fathers love. This describes many of us who have lived a lifetime, not as true orphans, but spiritual ones, - going through life without a true sense of a loving Fathers love and acceptance, feeling abandoned and figuratively fatherless, we strive everyday for perfection or even just to survive, with assurance of God as our provider or true heart assurance that we have been chosen and adopted by our heavenly Father.  We work to earn favor in God’s eyes, seek things to meet that ache in our hearts that has been closed off for so long, not knowing in our deepest core that we are loved by our heavenly father. We wall off our heart - determine to get by with strength, but we live terribly lonely deep inside.  Living around everybody, but not fully trusting anyone. We live with no assurance of a place in the fathers home.

So…I ask…. Is this you?

I wish I could hold your lonely heart. I wish I could pour in the love that has been so missing all your life, for whatever reason. Covid19 may have left the biggest lonely ache in your heart that has ever been there. But I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Lord Jesus Loves you and wants your heart to know that truth.  I know He died for you to make you whole, to give you true living water. Jesus said that "he who drinks of the water I give him will never thirst again!" Could it be that we haven't been drinking of the true living water that he wants to give us? Could it be that our hearts turned away from our Heavenly Father at a very young age? For some of you reading this right now, you never had a real father to show you that living water, in fact - he showed you the exact opposite. How could your heart have turned toward your Father in heaven? Your real father never showed something to run toward. And you have been living like an orphan heart for your whole life . Perhaps you grew up without a father and the unmet need is so great that you don't know how to let the Father hold you on his lap and sings your song to you.  And songs such as the Casting Crown song said "just be held" seem very elusive... (Really, in some states during Covid...you say just be held? ...Right! So sorry) "So when you're on your knees and answers seem so far away....You're not alone, stop holding on and Just be held Just be held"

Can you be held by the Father? Can you melt into HIS arms?

If your heart cannot hear the fathers love, nor soak in your fathers presence, he desperately wants to know you.  He lovingly comes and gently touches your heart and says my daughter, my son.. "when did your heart first turn away from your mothers and fathers love?...and ...from me"  To the extent we have turned our hearts away from our fathers and mothers at a very young age, we also have turned away from our father in heaven, and we live as an orphan,  unable to hear God say “You are my beloved child, in YOU, I am well pleased.” “ I am so proud of you” . And even if we do hear it, we cannot really believe it in our deepest of hearts.

Can you hear him say "I am so proud of you?

He is!

Jesus , with all his love is crying out, "Come I have paid the price, ask forgiveness for turning your heart away, repent, forgive and hear my love for you. "
